About Alexander Slocum Jr.

Dr. Alexander Slocum Jr., MD, PhD, FACS, is a board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon and the founder of Seacoast Plastic Surgery and Medical Aesthetics in Portsmouth, New Hampshire. A New Hampshire native, he earned his bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees in mechanical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where his PhD thesis was on the design of a rolling-contact knee joint. He holds several patents related to machine and medical device design. He earned his medical degree from the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine at Marshall University, completed a general surgery internship at Brigham and Women's Hospital/Harvard Medical School, and completed his integrated plastic surgery residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin, one of the most competitive training programs in the country, where he completed almost 3,000 individual surgeries. He is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is an elected member of both the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and The Aesthetic Society (ASAPS). His background as a master woodworker and metalworker informs his surgical precision, allowing him to approach each procedure with artistry and meticulous care. He has published peer-reviewed research on peripheral nerve sheath tumors, digital replant leech therapy, and medical device design. He holds privileges at Portsmouth Regional Hospital and performs outpatient surgeries at Portsmouth Regional Ambulatory Surgery Center and Atlantic Coast Surgical Suites. The practice specializes in rhinoplasty, facelift, neck lift, abdominoplasty, thighplasty, breast augmentation, top surgery for transgender patients, buccal fat removal, and medical aesthetics.
