V. Leroy Young

Dr. V. Leroy Young, MD, FACS, is a board-certified plastic surgeon and a founding partner of BodyAesthetic Plastic Surgery and Skincare Center in St. Louis, Missouri. He has been in the St. Louis area since 1977, when he began his plastic surgery residency at Washington University's Barnes-Jewish Hospital. He went on to serve as a faculty member at Washington University School of Medicine and rose to the rank of Professor of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. In 1999, he was honored with an Endowed Chair, becoming the first William G. Hamm Professor of Plastic Surgery at Washington University. After training scores of plastic surgery residents at Barnes-Jewish Hospital over 25 years, he left the university in 2002 to co-found BodyAesthetic with Dr. C.B. Boswell. Dr. Young is nationally recognized as a leading expert on breast augmentation and breast implants, with much of his research career focused on silicone gel and saline-filled breast implant safety and effectiveness. His clinical trials contributed directly to the FDA approval of silicone gel breast implants. He has been awarded numerous research grants and produced scores of peer-reviewed articles in major plastic surgery journals. He served as President of the Aesthetic Surgery Education and Research Foundation (ASERF), the research arm of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, and received their Distinguished Service Award and twice won the Award of Excellence for Best Article in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal. He co-chairs the Hot Topics Seminars at the national meetings of ASAPS and ASPS. Dr. Young has been regularly included in America's Top Doctors and has appeared as a breast implant expert on CNN and in The New York Times. He also founded the BodyAesthetic Research Center, which conducts clinical trials related to plastic surgery.
