Burton Sundin

Dr. Burton M. Sundin, MD, is a board-certified plastic surgeon and co-founder of the Virginia Institute of Plastic Surgery, with offices in Richmond (7611 Forest Avenue), Northern Virginia, Washington DC, and Charlottesville.

Dr. Sundin is a Virginia native from Virginia Beach. He graduated valedictorian from Norfolk Academy. He earned dual degrees in Biology and Art History from Duke University, graduating Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa (1993). He completed medical school at Duke University School of Medicine (1997) and his plastic surgery residency at Duke University Medical Center (1997–2003), making him a triple Duke graduate. He completed a hand surgery fellowship at the world-renowned Christine M. Kleinert Institute for Hand and Microsurgery in Louisville, Kentucky (2001), and an aesthetic and breast surgery fellowship at the University of Alabama at Birmingham under Dr. Luis Vasconez (2003–2004), where he also held a faculty appointment as Instructor.

He is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (2006). He is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the American Medical Association, the Virginia Medical Society, and the Richmond Academy of Medicine. He has been published in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and Annals of Plastic Surgery. He practices alongside his colleague Dr. Reps B. Sundin.
