Iltefat H. Hamzavi

Dr. Iltefat H. Hamzavi, MD, FAAD, is a board-certified dermatologist, Senior Staff Physician at Henry Ford Health System's Department of Dermatology, and a partner at Hamzavi Dermatology with locations across Metro Detroit. He earned his BA with honors in Sociology from the University of Michigan and his MD with academic honors from the University of Michigan Medical School. He completed his dermatology residency at Wayne State University, trained at leading skin care centers in Europe, and an advanced laser and photomedicine fellowship at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. He is one of the world's foremost experts on vitiligo, photomedicine, and hidradenitis suppurativa, having co-authored over 300 peer-reviewed papers cited over 9,000 times. He co-developed the VASI score, the standard measurement tool for vitiligo treatment response, and his group has led North American efforts in developing surgical treatments for vitiligo, including melanocyte-keratinocyte transplantation. He is a founding Co-Chair of the Global Vitiligo Foundation and served as President of the Hidradenitis Suppurativa Foundation. He was named one of America's Top 50 Doctors. He teaches medical students at Wayne State University and volunteers with nonprofits in education, civic engagement, and raising awareness for debilitating skin diseases. He specializes in phototherapy (narrowband UVB and excimer laser), vitiligo surgical treatment, hidradenitis suppurativa, Nd:YAG laser, pigmentary disorders, complex medical dermatology, and cosmetic dermatology.
