Neil T. Chen

Dr. Neil T. Chen, MD, is a board-certified plastic surgeon and the president and founder of the Plastic Surgery Institute of New Mexico in Albuquerque, which he opened in 1996. He graduated magna cum laude from Haverford College with a BA in Chemistry (First Prize in Chemistry) and received his Doctor of Medicine cum laude from Harvard Medical School. He completed an internship, general surgical residency, and plastic surgery residency at Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School, followed by a hand surgery fellowship at UCLA Medical Center. He is also Medical Director of Sandia Surgery Center. He is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery with a certificate of added qualification in surgery of the hand and is a member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the American Society for Surgery of the Hand. He has served as a clinical assistant professor in the surgery department at the University of New Mexico, mentoring medical students for over 20 years. He was inducted into Marquis Who's Who, named a 2023 Top Doctor in Albuquerque Magazine, 2022 Reader's Choice in the Albuquerque Journal, and 2020 Top Three Plastic Surgeon in Albuquerque. He has volunteered performing cleft lip procedures in Ecuador. He has published research on bacterial growth in saline implants, craniofacial bone grafts, and antibiotic treatment in contaminated bone.
