Eugene Cherny

Dr. Eugene J. Cherny, MD, FACS, is a board-certified plastic surgeon and the director of Heartland Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in Des Moines, Iowa. He earned his BA magna cum laude in English and his MD with honors in surgery from Rush Medical College in Chicago. He has been practicing in Des Moines since 1989 and has over 35 years of experience. He served in the United States Army as an attending surgeon at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C., and in Operation Desert Storm, receiving the Army Achievement Medal and retiring as a Major in the U.S. Army Medical Corps. He is one of the few Iowa members of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and has been awarded three times as one of America's Top Surgeons. He is a full Adjunct Professor of Surgery at Des Moines University and a Site Coordinator for plastic surgery resident education at the University of Iowa. He was appointed to the Iowa Board of Medicine by Governor Kim Reynolds. He received the ASAPS Community Service Award in 2006 for medical mission trips to Honduras and El Salvador performing complex pediatric reconstructive surgery. His practice has its own ambulatory surgery center. He specializes in breast augmentation, breast reconstruction, facelifts, tummy tucks, liposuction, rhinoplasty, CoolSculpting, and body contouring.
