About Jeffrey Dover
Jeffrey S. Dover, MD, FRCPC, is a board-certified dermatologist, laser surgery pioneer, and co-director of SkinCare Physicians in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, one of the largest and most respected dermatology and cosmetic surgery practices in the United States. The practice currently includes 12 board-certified dermatologists, and in 2026, 11 of them were named Boston Magazine Top Doctors.
Dr. Dover graduated as the silver medalist, magna cum laude, from the University of Ottawa Faculty of Medicine in 1981. He completed his dermatology training at the University of Toronto, followed by a research fellowship at St. John's Hospital for Diseases of the Skin at the University of London, and a two-year photomedicine fellowship at Beth Israel Hospital and Massachusetts General Hospital of Harvard Medical School. He served as Chief of Dermatology at the New England Deaconess Hospital for over ten years and as Associate Chairman of Dermatology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.
He is a former Associate Professor of Dermatology at Harvard Medical School, where he was repeatedly nominated for Teacher of the Year. He currently holds faculty appointments as Associate Clinical Professor of Dermatology at Yale University School of Medicine, Associate Professor of Dermatology at Brown Medical School, and Adjunct Professor of Medicine in Dermatology at Dartmouth Medical School.
Dr. Dover is one of the foremost authorities in the world on injectable aesthetics. He authored the Botox volume and the Soft Tissue Augmentation volume in his bestselling "Procedures in Cosmetic Dermatology" book series, texts that are used as clinical reference manuals by physicians performing neurotoxin and dermal filler treatments across the globe. These are not theoretical overviews. They are technique-level instructional guides written by a physician who has been performing injectable treatments for decades and who actively treats patients with Botox, dermal fillers, and other injectable products at SkinCare Physicians. He has published peer-reviewed research on topics including daxibotulinumtoxinA (Daxxify), hyaluronic acid filler complications, and needle contamination risks in filler injections. When you consider that most injectable providers learn their techniques from textbooks, courses, and training programs that reference Dr. Dover's published work, his position in the field becomes clear. He did not just adopt best practices. He helped define them.
Beyond injectables, Dr. Dover has authored over 400 scientific publications and co-authored or edited more than 50 textbooks. His titles include "Illustrated Cutaneous Laser Surgery: A Practitioner's Guide," "Atlas of Cosmetic Surgery," and additional volumes in the Procedures in Cosmetic Dermatology series covering lasers and light sources, scars, liposuction, hair transplantation, blepharoplasty, face lifting, skin tightening, body contouring, cosmeceuticals, and leg veins. These texts have been translated into French, Italian, Spanish, Russian, Polish, and Chinese, and are used by physicians worldwide. He also co-authored three books for general audiences, including "The Youth Equation." He is the founding editor of Journal Watch for Dermatology, produced by the publishers of the New England Journal of Medicine.
He is a Past President of both the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery and the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery. He served as ASLMS President from 2013 to 2014 and is a past president of the New England Dermatological Society. He is a founding member of the Leon Goldman Circle Advancement of Laser Medicine Endowment Fund and continues to serve on ASLMS committees alongside the field's most prominent leaders.
Dr. Dover has received three of the most prestigious awards in laser medicine from the ASLMS. He received the Leon Goldman Memorial Award in 2000, recognizing excellence in clinical research, patient care, or education related to medical lasers. He received the Ellet H. Drake Memorial Award in 2008, honoring a practicing physician who has contributed to innovative laser procedures or products. And he received the Caroline and William Mark Memorial Award in 2022, a lifetime achievement honor recognizing career-long contributions to laser technology. Very few physicians in the history of the society have received all three. He was also honored by the Sturge-Weber Foundation at its 20th Annual Gala for his work in laser surgery.
He has been listed among the Best Doctors in America, named to Who's Who of American Medicine and Who's Who in America, recognized by Town and Country as one of the best cosmetic surgeons in the United States, and selected for multiple editions of Boston Magazine's Top Doctors. He co-directs the SkinCare Physicians Clinical Research Center, where he has been involved in numerous clinical trials advancing cosmetic and laser dermatology. He also created Skin Effects, a skincare line that was available at CVS Pharmacy nationwide. His clinical practice at SkinCare Physicians spans laser surgery, photomedicine, Botox, dermal fillers, Fraxel, V-beam laser, cosmetic dermatologic surgery, and skin rejuvenation.
He was born in Brooklyn and raised in Ottawa, Canada. His wife, Tania Phillips, MD, FRCPC, is also a dermatologist who practices at SkinCare Physicians. They have two daughters, Sophie and Isabel.
